Suspected militant den cordoned off in Savar

Staff Correspondent, Savar: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is carrying out an operation after cordoning off a one-storey house on suspicion of militant hideout in Ashulia of Savar.

The operation was carried out at the house, owned by one Ibrahim, in Noyarhat Chowrabali area of Ashulia since early Sunday.

The house was cordoned off based on the information from our intelligence. Sensing the presence of RAB around 3:00am, the militants fired gunshots from inside the hideout. Gunshots fire and sounds of explosion were again heard from inside the hideout around 7:30am, RAB Media Wing Director Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan told risingbd.com.

They are being asked to surrender from the very beginning of the operation. There might be several militants inside the house and it is feared that they possessed powerful explosives, he added.

RAB restricted people’s movement in 50 yard area near the house.

A special squad of RAB, its mobile jammer and engineering squad, and bomb disposal unit have arrived at the spot.

A man named Azad rented the house identifying himself as a RMG worker, RAB sources said.
