Theresa May 'will not resign' despite Tory election disaster

International Desk: Theresa May will not resign despite her disastrous election gamble, said sources close to the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister has come under mounting pressure to quit after her snap election call ended in a hung Parliament.

But sources said she had no intention of going, despite failing to secure the mandate for Brexit negotiations she had sought.

As the election count drew to a close with the Tories short of an overall majority, there was anger from Tories over Mrs May’s strategy.

The Prime Minister had come in for fierce criticism for her campaign, with some saying she came over as too robotic and avoided debate.

Tory former business minister Anna Soubry, who held her Broxtowe seat, on Theresa May's future: "She is in a very difficult place.

"She is a remarkable and she's a very talented woman and she doesn't shy from difficult decisions. But she now has to obviously consider her position."
