Two DU students held over extortion

Police have held two students of Dhaka University (DU) for allegedly collecting extortion.
They were held from High Court (HC) area early Saturday, according to Shahbag police station sources.
The detainees were known as Al-Amin, 21, 3rd year student of Criminology Department. He hailed from Gopalpur of Tangail. Another is Zubayer Ahmed Shanto, 20, same year student of International Relations Departent. He hailed from Nasirnagar of Brahmanbaria.
They both are resident students of Freedom Fighter Ziaur Rahman Hall of DU and known as followers of DU BCL president Sanjit Chandra Das.
It was learnt that they demanded extortion from a truck driver when he parked the truck near HC area. They beat the driver and his associate as they refused to give extortion. Later, they took pin number of their Bikash account and picked up all money forcibly. At one stage, of the victims informed the incident to police men on duty. Police with help of DU authority held them.
Shahbag Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Hassan confirmed the news.
A case was filed in this connection, the OC said.
