Two children tied to tree, tortured in Khulna

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: Two children were tied to a tree and tortured brutally in Paikgachha upazila of Khulna for allegedly stealing ducks.

The victims, Jummon Sardar and Hasan, both are fifth graders, were beaten up mercilessly after tying them up to a tree for several hours over their alleged involvement in stealing three to four ducks from a local seed production farm in the upazila's Boalia area on Friday noon, reports our Khulna correspondent.

This incident raised uproar in the upazila after it came to the knowledge of people.

Parvin Begum, mother of Jummon, alleged that Shahinur Rahman, son of local businessman Chhabed Ali who owns the ducks, tied Jummon and Hasan to a mango tree of their house and beat them mercilessly.

Asked, Shahinur said, "I got angry hearing the theft and tied them to a tree for some time. Later, they were released when I came to know about my fault."

Contacted, Md Aminul Islam Biplob, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Paikgachha Police Station, said no one came to the police station with such complaint. But action will be taken once a complaint is lodged.
