Staff Correspondent: Walton, the country’s leading electrical, electronics and home appliances manufacturing and marketing company, has stood beside an 18-year old girl who is now being treated at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital in Dhaka.

The country’s leading company extended its assistance for the treatment of Toma Akter after a report regarding the inability to bear the treatment cost in favour of her family was published in risingbd.com, one of the most popular online news portals in Bangladesh.

Giving TK 1 lakh for Toma's treatment as financial help, the company assured her of more help if needed.

SM Zahid Hasan, Executive Director (Policy, HRM and Admin) of Bangladesh's leading brand Walton, handed over TK 1 lakh to Toma in presence of BSMMU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan at his office on Wednesday.

Prof Gazi Shamim Hassan, Dean of Faculty of Dentistry, Prof Dr Chowdhury Iqbal Mahmud, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery, Deputy Registrar Dr Shaikh Abdullah Al Mamun and Toma's parents were, among others, present on the occasion.

Extending assistance towards Toma, Walton's Executive Director SM Zahid Hasan said, "TK 1 lakh has been given for Toma's initial treatment. Financial help will be extended towards her if required."

BSMMU VC Prof Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan thanked the Walton Group for standing beside Toma by providing with financial help for her treatment.

Toma's mother Sharmin Begum expressed her heartiest gratitude to the Walton Group for standing by them. She also thanked all who helped take her daughter to Dhaka.

Toma Akter was admitted to the BSMMU on April 24 with a large-sized piece of flesh on the left side of her mouth. Basically, she is suffering from a disease named Vascular Malformation relating to a blood vessel abnormality.

Toma lives at Joshihati Poschimpara village under Basail upazila of Tangail with her parents. Toma's father Atahar Ali is a poor farmer and mother Sharmin Begum is a housewife. She has five brothers and sisters and she is the youngest among them.

Walton has been assisting helpless people by providing with financial help for long time. Earlier, it gave TK 2 lakh to Bithi Akter, 11, who was suffering from a rare disease, for her treatment. Recently, the company extended its hands towards noted singer Abdul Jabbar.
