Water level of Jamuna River crosses danger level

Sirajganj Correspondent: The water-level of the Jamuna River has risen by 15cm, flooding the char areas of 28 unions in five upazilas of the district on Saturday.

New areas are going underwater every day as the water level continues to rise in the district.

People of five upazilas including Kazipur, Shahjadpur, Chouhali, Belkuchi and Sadar upazila took shelter at flood control embankment.

Hasan Imam, executive engineer of Water Development Board of the district, said the Jamuna was flowing about 15cm over the danger-level. The water level would rise more in Jamuna River in next 5-7 days.

Sandbags were dropped in risky areas of the embankment, he added.
