Onion prices increase by Tk 15 per kg at Hili

Due to banning onion export by the government of India to Bangladesh, the price of onions has been shot up by Tk 15 per kg at Hili land port of Dinajpur, according to onion retailers at Hili bazar.

It was seen that wholesalers were selling onions at Tk 55-60 per kg at Hili markets on Saturday morning while retailers were selling at Tk 75-80 per kg. 

Mariam Begum told risingbd that she bought onions at Tk 35 per kg two weeks ago. But she has to buy onions at Tk 80-85 per kg this morning.

India witnessed a shortage in the supply of onions due to heavy rains and flash floods in different states of the country. In order to normalize the price of onions in its local markets, the government of India banned exports of all types of onions. Customs office in India informed customs office at Hili about the decision in a letter.
