Only low-income people were earlier seen standing in long lines to collect products of state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) at subsidised rates. But scenery has now changed. People from all walks of life are now seen in queues to collect the TCB products due to the price increase of daily essentials on the market.
After visiting several spots in the capital, it has been seen that people from all walks of life are collecting TCB products standing in long queues although they are to face huge suffering in collecting those products. Sometimes, chaos is created and arguments between buyers and sellers erupted over collecting the products, resulting in scuffles.
It was noticed after visiting Shonir Akhra area in the capital around 6:45pm on Monday (April 12) that people were swarming to collect TCB products in long lines near Dhaka-Chattogram highway. They were seen to collect oil, sugar, pulses, gram and onion at subsidized rates.
It was also observed that demand was higher than the supply of the TCB products due to the increased pressure of buyers.
While talking to Shamsur Rahman who was at the TCB truck, he said, “We came here with sufficient products but due to huge pressure of buyers, we are not giving out the products to all.”
