Defaulted loan increases by Tk 6,802 crore

Defaulted loan is increasing day by day. The special facilities provided during the coronavirus outbreak also did not help in reducing the defaulted loans. From January to March this year, defaulted loan increased by Tk 6,802 crore.

The disclosure was revealed in an updated report of Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Tuesday (June 15).

According to the latest report of the central bank, the amount of defaulted loan in the first quarter of this year stood at Tk 95,085 crore. As of December last year, the amount of defaulted loan was Tk 88,283 crore. The defaulted loan has increased by Tk 6,802 in three months. At the end of March 2020, the amount of defaulted loan was 92,510 crore. As a result, the defaulted debt has increased by Tk 2,574 crore as compared to the first quarter of the last year.

Meanwhile, the total amount of loan disbursed in the current fiscal year is Tk 11,77,658 crore. As of December last year, the amount disbursed by the banks was Tk 11,58,775 crore.

In the first quarter of this year, state-owned banks disbursed loans worth Tk 2,07,000 crore. Of this, the amount of defaulted loan is Tk 43,450 crore. Which is 19.67 percent of the loan disbursed by the banks.
