Banks to remain closed Sunday

The government has issued a gazette notification extending the ongoing strict lockdown till August 10 in a bid to prevent Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections. During this time, bank activities will continue on a limited scale.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Bank in a directive on Thursday (August 05) has announced that all bank activities including transactions will remain suspended on Sunday (August 08).

Except for weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday, bank transactions will continue from 10 am to 3 pm on August 9 and 10 maintaining all Covid-safety protocols and with limited staff, the directive said.

Their other regular activities can continue till 4:30pm in compliance with government guidelines.

The other directives of Bangladesh Bank issued on July 13 this year will remain unchanged, said the circular.

As per that circular, during this period, the head offices and authorized dealers-designated branches of banks will remain open while state-owned banks will keep open one branch at the district level and one at the upazila level.

Private banks, on the other hand, will keep open one branch at the district level and a maximum of two branches outside districts with limited manpower, according to the central bank.

However, internet banking services will continue for 24 hours. All banks will have to ensure the operations of ATM kiosks to facilitate transactions through cards and by supplying adequate cash in the machines, as per the BB circular.
