Rag Day not being banned on DU campus

Through issuing a press release on Wednesday, Dhaka University (DU) authorities announced that they have decided to ban celebrating Rag Day inside the campus.

But on Thursday, DU authorities issued another press release saying that the Rag Day prohibition was accidentally presented differently and apologized for it.

The press release said “The celebration of Rag Day on the campus is not prohibited. However, the concerned authorities will keep an eye on the unwanted, disrespectful and anti-disciplinary incidents”.

Originally, the Academic Council (AC) asked authorities to be vigilant to ensure that no inhumane, disrespectful, or undisciplined behavior takes place on campus or in hostels in the name of Rag Day celebration, the second press release said.

Policies need to be formulated to organize events, festivals or colorful rallies for celebrating “education completion” or graduation.

Moreover, a committee was formed -- with pro-vice chancellor (administration) as convener, proctor as secretary and deans of Faculty of Arts, Biology and Business Studies as members – to develop the policies.
