Sheikh Russel’s birth anniv celebrated at IU

The teachers, officials and employees of the Islamic University’s Bangabandhu Parishad celebrated the 57th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on the campus in Kushtia on Sunday, amid festive mood and much enthusiasm.

IU Bangabandhu Parishad officers' unit organised the event on the second floor of Momotaj Building of the university.

The teachers, officials and employees cut a cake to mark the day.

Among others, IU Bangabandhu Parishad teachers' unit President Professor Ruhul KM Saleh, IU Shapla Forum President Professor M Rezuanul Islam, its General Secretary Professor M Mahbubar Rahman, Bangabandhu officers' unit President Deputy Registrar M Abdul Hannan, General Secretary Shahanur Rahman Keramat, IU Officers' Association President Alamgir Hossain khan, Jillur Rahman and among others were present on the occasion.

Earlier, IU Vice-chancellor Professor M Abdus Salam, pro-vice-chancellor Professor M Shahinoor Rahman, hall provost Professor Rabiul Hossain and acting registrar SM Abdul Latif placed floral wreath at Sheikh Russel mural around 12pm.

Later, a cake-cutting ceremony was held there. IU BCL unit activists were also celebrated the day.

On August 15, 1975, Sheikh Russel was killed along with most of his family members, including Bangabandhu, when he was just a student of class four.
