WorldFish hosts beach cleaning program in Cox`s Bazar

Fishers and youths, fisheries officials and staff members of ECOFISH-II project and its partner organization participated in a waste removal campaign in Cox’s Bazar sea beach on Tuesday (June 08) morning.
The clean-up drive was held in sea beach area of Ukhiya, Teknaf, Moheshkhali, Ramu and Laboni point of Cox's Bazar Sadar, according to a press release issued yesterday.
WorldFish Bangladesh organized the event under its USAID-funded ECOFISH-II activity as a part of World Ocean Day 2021.
The participants collected more than 300 kilograms of garbage like plastic bottles, polythene bags and sheets, food packets, single-use plastics, discarded nets and coconut shells from there.
Dr. M A Wahab, team leader of ECOFISH-II, said, “The ocean delivers us with the essential resources to live such as oxygen, water, and various kinds of food. Therefore, we have to conserve the biodiversity and maintain ocean health. We are organizing beach cleaning event with the beach users and fishers regularly to keep the beach clean.”
WorldFish also organized beach cleaning program in Bhola and Kuakata, Patuakhali on the same day, he added.
