2 killed as truck, auto-rickshaw collide in Dinajpur

Two people were killed and two others injured after a collision between a truck and an auto-rickshaw on the Dinajpur-Phulbari regional highway at Phulbari upazila in Dinajpur district on Thursday (June 13).

The accident took place at 10:00 am.

The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Nazrul Islam, 45, a resident of South Suzapur village in the upazila and a passenger of auto-rickshaw Jahanara Begum, 40, wife of Afzal, a resident of Modonpur Sialkot village in the upazila.

The injured were rescued and taken to Phulbari Hospital where on-duty doctors referred them to Dinajpur Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated. 

Md Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Phulbari Police Station, said the truck driver and helper have been detained in this connection.

The bodies would be handed over to their families after completing autopsy, the police official added.
