Water level of all rivers in Sylhet increases, low-lying areas inundated

Water level of all rivers in Sylhet has begun to increase, inundating many low-lying areas. 

Due to heavy rains in India’s Cherrapunji and hill slopes, the water level in the Surma river, Kushiara river and Sari river were flowing above the danger level at three points at around 12:00pm on Sunday. 

According to Water Development Board, heavy rainfall is occurring in Sylhet region. 52mm of rain was recorded in the last three hours of Sunday noon. 

The water of major rivers may increase more as rainfall will continue. 

441 mm of rain was recorded in India’s Cherrapunji in the past 24 hours.
