Eid festivities dampened in Sunamganj due to flood

Heavy rainfall and onrush of upstream water have caused flood in Sunamganj district, leaving thousands of people marooned. 

As a result, Eid-ul-Azha festivities have been dampened.

All rivers of the district were flowing above the danger mark due to the onrush of hill water and torrential rains.

Surma was flowing 20 cm above its danger level at Shologhor point on Monday noon, inundating low-lying areas. 

Many streets of Sunamganj municipality have been submerged under knee-deep water, causing significant distress to residents as water has entered homes and shops. 

Despite the adverse weather, Eid prayers were performed at various Eidgahs in the city amid the rain.

About 365mm rainfall was recorded in last 24 hours. Met office predicts that more rainfall may occur in next 48 hours.
