Flood water enters hospital premises in Sylhet

Flood water has entered hospital premises in three flood-hit upazilas of Sylhet.

On Thursday (June 20), Deputy Civil Surgeon Janmejoy Dutta said that there was knee-deep water inside Companyganj Upazila Health Complex on Tuesday. Now the water has receded from inside the hospital but the premises are still submerged. There is also flood water on Fenchuganj and Goainghat Upazila Health Complex premises.

Shah Md Sajib Hossain, assistant meteorologist at Sylhet Meteorological Department, said that 110.2mm of rainfall was recorded in Sylhet in 24 hours. 10 mm of rainfall was recorded between 6 am and 9 am on Thursday. Rainfall levels have decreased. The situation will improve if it continues.

Meanwhile, water is still flowing above the danger limit at five points of Surma and Kushiara rivers in Sylhet. However, the water at Sari and Goainghat point of Goainghat river has fallen below the danger level.

According to the Sylhet district administration, 50,000 people in 23 wards of Sylhet city have been affected by flooding. Of them, 2,500 people went to shelter centres. Another 825,000 people in 13 upazilas of the district have been affected by the floods so far. Of them, 17,449 people are currently staying in shelter centres.
