Papia walks out of jail

Narsingdi’s expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Nur Papia has been freed from jail on bail.

She walked out of Cumilla Central Jail at 6am on Monday (June 24).

Cumilla Jail Superintendent Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mamun confirmed the matter.

Earlier, Papia was in Kashimpur jail. Later, she was shifted to Cumilla central jail following an allegation of torture of a female prisoner in the jail on July 3, 2023.

On February 22, 2020, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Papia and her husband, along with two of their accomplices, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka with counterfeit banknotes, foreign currencies, and cash.

RAB later raided their two luxurious flats in the capital’s Indira Road area and recovered a foreign-made pistol, two magazines, 20 bullets, five bottles of foreign liquor, and Taka 58.41 lakh in cash, among other things.
