Dhaleshwari devours over 20 houses in 2 days

Over 20 houses went into the gorge of the Dhaleshwari River in the last two days as erosion by the river has taken a serious turn in Islam village under Keain union in Sirajdikhan upazila in Munshiganj due to the onrush of water from the upstream.

20 dwelling houses have already been washed away by the river.

Many more houses, croplands and Islampur Kamil Madrsda now stand threatened by the riverbank erosion.

Hundreds of families who have lost their homes have taken shelter at different places.

UNO Ashfikun Nahar said “We are dumping sand bags in erosion-hit areas on an emergency basis to check the erosion and we also talk to officials of Water Development Board and they will visit the spot today”.
