Rangamati bridge opens soon

The bridge over the Chengi River in Rangamati district is now awaiting for inauguration. After completion of remaining work of the link road, it will be open to traffic within two to three months.

Residents of Naniarchar, Langadu and Baghaichhari upazilas of Rangamati are to suffer due to Kaptai Lake. The people of these three remote upazilas are now dreaming as a 500-meter bridge over the river Chengi will open to traffic very soon.

The bridge will not only increase road connectivity but also play an important role in the education, medical and socio-economic development here.The construction work of the bridge started in November of 2016.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader announced the construction of the bridge at a public meeting in Naniarchar upazila.

The bridge is going to be inaugurated int December, said the project officer.

According to the Naniarchar Bridge Project Office, it is the longest bridge in the Chattogram Hill Tracts. It is 500 meters long and 9.8 meters wide. The total budget of this bridge project is Tk 226 crore and six lakh. Of this, Tk 46.61 crore has been spent for land acquisition.

The connecting road with the bridge is 2.2 km.
