Importers in trouble with rotten onions

Importers of Hili Land Port in Dinajpur are in trouble with imported onions.

All these onions are being sold at Tk 20 to Tk 30 per kg. A  55-kg sack of rotted onions is being sold for only Tk 100.

Monwar Hossain Chowdhury, an onion importer of Hili Land Port, said this to Risingbd on Sunday (September 20).

Monwar Hossain Chowdhury said “Indian trucks loaded with onions were stuck at the border for last five days due to complications, but the trucks entered the Hily Land Port yesterday. Most of the onions have rotted. We are in trouble with rotten onions. We will incur huge loss”.

It is known that good quality onions are being sold at Tk 50 to Tk 55 in wholesale maket. Rotten or spoiled onions are being sold at Tk 20 to Tk 30 per kg and completely damaged onions are being sold at Tk 100 per 55-kg sack.
