34th span of Padma Bridge to be installed Sunday

The 34th span of Padma Bridge will be installed on Sunday (October 25), according to authorities concerned.

If the weather remains favorable and there are no technical complications, the span will be installed on the 7th and 8th pillar of Mawa side of the bridge in Munshiganj in the morning. With this, 5,100 metres (5.1 kilometer) of the giant structure will be visible.

Executive engineer (main bridge) of the Padma Bridge Project Dewan Abdul Quader confirmed the matter.

He said, “The 34th gray span of 150 meters length was taken to the pillars from Mawa Kumarbhog Construction Yard in Munshiganj by a floating crane at around 3:30 pm on Saturday (October 24).”

He further said, “Strong winds are blowing in the Padma due to bad weather. Besides, there is also lack of enough light. So, the span will be installed on Sunday morning.”

According to the bridge’s engineering sources, after installation of the 34th span, there are plans to install the 35th span on the 2nd and 3rd pillars on October 30 and the 36th span on November 4. Besides, the bridge secretary has instructed to install all the spans by December 10. Earlier, the 33rd span was installed on October 19.
