Rifat murder: 11 juveniles sentenced to different terms in  jail

A Barguna court has sentenced 11 juveniles to different terms in jail in the sensational Rifat Sharif murder case.

Six juveniles have been sentenced to 10 years in jail, four sentenced to five years in jail and one sentenced to three years in jail.

The court has also acquitted three boys as the allegation against them was not proved.

Judge Md Hafizur Rahman of the Barguna District Children's Court handed down the verdict on Tuesday noon.

14 juveniles are Rashidul Hasan Rishan, 17, Md Rakibul Hasan Rifat Hawlader, 15, Md Abu Abdullah Raihan, 16, Md Oliullah Oli, 16, Joy Chandra Sarker alias Chandan, 17, Md Naim, 17, Tanvir Hossain, 17, Nazmul Hasan, 14, Rakibul Hasan Niamat, 15, Md Saiyed Maruf Billah Mohibullah, 17, Maruf Mallik, 17, Prince Molla, 15, Ratul Shikdar, 14, and Aryan Srabon, 16.

On September 30, a Barguna court sentenced six accused including his wife Ayesha Siddika Minni to death in the murder case.

On June 26, 2019, Rifat Sharif was hacked to death in broad daylight in front of Barguna Government College. A video clip of the incident went viral on social media that sparked outrages across the country.

Police on August 1, 2019 submitted two separate charge sheets to the court in connection with the case. One of the charge sheets accused 14 juveniles of the murder while another implicated 10 adults.
