3 die after taking alcohol in Kushtia

Three youths reportedly died after taking poisonous alcohol in different places of Kushtia town early Wednesday (October 28).

They died while undergoing treatment at the Kushtia General Hospital, confirmed SM Tanvir Arafat, Superintendent of Kushtia police.

The deceased were identified as Ripon Kumar Ghose, 32, son of Bhobesh Ghose, Nitai Biswas, 35, son of Debendranath Biswash and Anik Biswash, 21, son of Tapon Biswas of the town.

Dr Taposh Kumar Sarkar, resident medical officer at the hospital, said they all fell sick after taking alcohol during the celebration of Durga Puja, an annual festival for Hindu community.

Later, their family members took them to Kushtia General Hospital where they were given necessary treatment, he said.

At one stage, they succumbed to their sickness while undergoing treatment, Taposh Kumar said.

Superintendent SM Tanvir Arafat said they are looking into the deaths of three youths by taking poisonous alcohol.
