Another deep seaport being built in country

Another deep seaport is being constructed in the country at a cost of around Tk 18,000 crore. The official construction work of this port has already started at Matarbari in Maheshkhali upazila of Cox's Bazar.
Initially construction work of the new port has started under Chattogram Port. The Chattogram Port Authority hopes that the construction will be completed by 2026 and it will be able to start operational activities.
Zafar Alam, a member of Chattogram Port, told risingbd that the deep seaport is being constructed at Matarbari at a cost of around Tk 18,000 crore following the role model of the Prime Minister. Initially, the port will be built with a capacity of handling eight lakh containers. The port terminal will be able to accommodate ships carrying 8 to 10 thousand containers each. It will further enrich the economic potential of the country.
Zafar Alam further said that an agreement was signed on September 23 with a consulting firm called Nippon Koei of Japan for the construction of the seaport. They have officially started work from November 16. It will work until 2026 for the design, supervision, monitoring, tender assistance and subsequent warranty period. The feasibility study of the port has already been completed with the funding of Japan.
Hiroshi Otani, head of Nippon Koei, said they have already begun work. The first step will be to design the port and do other civil work. Later, construction work will be done.
