Madrasah super gets life term for raping female student in Kushtia

A special tribunal in Kushtia has sentenced superintendent of Sirajul Ulum Mariamun Nesa Madrasah Maulana Abdul Quader to life term imprisonment in a case filed for raping a residential female student on October 5.

The tribunal also fined him Tk one lakh, in default of which he will have to spend one more year in jail.

Kushtia's Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Munshi Md Moshiar Rahman gave the verdict in presence of the accused on Tuesday (November 17).

According to the case statement, Quader called the victim to his room and allegedly raped her there on October 3.

Quader raped the girl once again on October 4 and threatened her not to tell anyone about the matter. The incident, however, came to the light after the victim informed the matter to one of her classmates.

Later, the victim's father filed a case with the police station, accusing Quader on October 5. Police arrested Quader on the same day.

Quader gave confessional statement under Section 164 of Code of Criminal Procedure ( CrPC) before the tribunal the following day.

Police submitted the charge sheet against him three days after filing the case.

Kushtia Court Public Prosecutor Advocate Anup Kumar Nandi said, ‘In the recent anti-rape movement, it has been possible to give this verdict as soon as possible after the new law of the government. It would be an example in preventing rape,’ he added.
