Three gets death for killing Bogura sand trader

A court in Bogura has sentenced three people to death in a case filed over the murder of a sand trader.

The court also acquitted five accused of the case as the charges brought against them were not proved.

Bogura District and Sessions Judge Naresh Chandra Sarkar handed down the verdict on Tuesday (November 17).

Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Abdul Matin confirmed the news to risingbd.

The death row convicts are-- Maruf Raihan alias Milon, 35, son of late Abdul Mazid from Nishindara Uttarpara area under Bogura sadar upazila, Manik, 22, son of Mahidul Islam from Nishindara Akandpara, and Sayeedi, 25, son of Masum Molla from Nishindara Modhyapara area.

And those acquitted in the case are councillor of ward no. 16 of Bogura municipality Johurul Islam Mondol, Shaon, Sujon, Shahinur and Kazim.

PP Abdul Matin said sand trader Hazrat Ali was hacked to death in front of local councillor's office in Nishindara area of Bogra city on April 16 in 2017.

Later, victim's mother Merina Begum filed a murder case with Bogura sadar police station accusing eight people.

Police submitted the charge-sheet against them on November 29 that year.
