Frontliners to be vaccinated first: Health Minister

Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said, “Many are keen to give Bangladesh vaccine. China, Russia, Europe and America all are willing to provide vaccine. We have all the doors open for the vaccine. Pfizer wants to offer some free vaccines from the company. We will take this vaccine and the frontliners will be vaccinated first.”

The minister was addressing as the chief guest at a blanket distribution function at Shuvro Center in Manikganj Sadar Upazila on Saturday (January 09).

Health Minister said, “Coronavirus infection is on the decline. Infection rates have dropped to 5.5 percent, recovery rates to 90 percent, and death rate has also gone down. There is no wave in our country. The way 4,000 people die each day in America. More than 10,000 people died around the world. There is a very low death rate in our country now. On an average, 20/25 people are dying every day across the country.”

“However, we do not want a single person to die in our country because of coronavirus. We all wear masks, maintain social distance and everyone maintains cleanliness. As a result, Bangladesh is in good situation, the economy is good. Where all the countries in the world have gone into minus, our economy is in plus,” he added.

He further said, “No one was without food during the coronavirus outbreak. No one was homeless. Everyone is fine. We want to keep continue the position. We hope that Bangladesh will get the vaccine by the end of this month or early next month and all preparations have been made to give the vaccine. There will be no shortage of vaccines in Bangladesh.”
