Municipal polls: 4 AL leaders suspended in Sylhet

Awami League has suspended four local leaders for participating in the municipality elections in Golapganj and Zakiganj of Sylhet going against the party decision.

Sylhet district Awami League unit President advocate Lutfur Rahman, General Secretary advocate Nasir Uddin Khan suspended them on Monday (January 18).

The four suspended leaders are – Gopalganj municipality Awami League president Md. Aminul Islam Rabel, Gopalganj Upazila Awami League former publicity secretary Jakaria Ahmed Paplu, Zakiganj Upazila Awami League publicity secretary Faruk Ahmed and Zakiganj Upazila Juba League Convener Md. Abdul Ahad.

There are a total of 329 municipalities across the country. The first phase election was held in 24 municipalities on December 28. Second phase polls were held in 64 municipalities on January 30.
