Yaba trader killed in Naikhongchari ‘gunfight’

A Yaba trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Boarder Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Baishfari border at Ghumdhum Union in Naikhongchari of Bandarban early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Md Abdur Rahim, 25, son of Wadul Haque at Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar.

Lt. Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed, captain of BGB-34, said acting on a tip off that a big consignment of Yaba will be smuggled into the country, a team of BGB took position there at 3:30 am. When the team approached to the gang, they opened fire on the BGB members, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.

After the gunfight, they rescued a man with bullet injury and taken to Ukhia Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, he said.

The BGB members also recovered 50,000 pieces of Yaba pills, two guns and 4 rounds of cartridges from the spot, he also said.
