UP chairman’s brother killed in rival attack in Brahmanbaria

A bother of an Upazila Parishad chairman has been killed in an attack reportedly by their rivals at Ashuganj in Brahmanbaria. 

The incident took place around 1.00am on Saturday in Char Chartala area of the upazila.

The victim was identified as Jamal Munsi, 50, brother of Hanif Munsi, Ashuganj Upazila Parishad chairman and convener of Ashuganj Upazila unit of Awami League. He was the son of Fazlul Haque Munsi.

Officer-in-Charge of Ashuganj Thana Jabed Mahmud confirmed the news.

Seven people were injured in the incident, and they have been admitted to a local hospital.

Upazila Parishad Chairman Hanif Munsi said they had a conflict with Abu Shahid Mia, Selim Parvez, Zia Uddin Khandaker, Shafiqul Islam, Zakir Hossain, Dilu Mia and Abdu Mia of Char Chartala village. Several hundred people, led by them, with native weapons attacked their house at night, leaving Jamal Munsi and some others injured.  Jamal Munsi was immediately taken to a local clinic where duty doctors declared him dead.
