College student killed after calling from home

A college student allegedly was killed after calling him from home in Rajshahi.

The incident took place at Kamarpara Tangon village under Mohonpur upazila of the district on Saturday (January 23) night.

The deceased was identified as Shafiul Islam, son of Saidul Islam of the village. He was a Masters student of the Accounting Department of Rajshahi Government College, according to police.

Inspector (Investigation) Touhidur Rahman said, “Locals noticed body of Shafiul in a mango garden, about 150-yard away of his home, on Sunday (January 24) morning. One Abdul Bari (35) had called him from his home around 8:00 pm on Saturday (January 23). Abdul Bari has been held for interrogation in this regard.”

Touhidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohonpur Police Station, “Injury marks were found on Shafiul’s head, forehead and under the eyes. His head was scuffled with polythene and throat was tied with rope.”

“The body was sent to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) for autopsy. Police are investigating into why the murder occurred. A murder case will be filed in this connection,” he added.
