Child abduction & murder: 2 sentenced until death, 2 to 10 yrs

A Tribunal in Tangail has sentenced two persons to life-term (until death) and two others to 10 years’ imprisonment each in a case filed over killing a child after abduction.

The two convicts who got life-term were also fined Tk 1 lakh each.

Judge Khaleda Yasmin of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Tangail handed down the order on Tuesday (January 26) noon.

The convicts sentenced until death are Jahangir Hossain, 30, son of Shahjahan of Rampur area of Ghatail upazila of the district and Goutam Chandra Arjya, son of Hiralal Arjya of Kamakkha bari area under Gopalpur upazila.

The two convicts who got 10 years’ imprisonment are Md Hassan Ali, 17, son of Abdul Halim of Niamatpur Kazipur area of Ghatail upazila, and Md Sohel, 17, son of Fazlul Haque of Ruhuli Pashchimpara area Bhunyapur upazila. 

State lawyer APP Shahanshah Mintu said, “The convicts abducted Masud Rana Soyon of Ruhuli village of Bhunyapur upazila on September 30, 2013. They demanded Tk 5 lakh as ransom from the child’s family. Later, they killed the child as the family did not pay the ransom. The deceased’s grandmother Majeda Begum filed a case in this connection with Bhunyapur Police Station on October 3, 2013.
