Supporters of Quader Mirza-Badal lock into clash, leaving 20 injured

A clash occurred between supporters of Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza, also younger brother of Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, and former upazila chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal at Companiganj of Noakhali on Friday, leaving 20 injured including bullet-hit of both groups. Of them, seven were in critical condition.

The incident took place at Chaprashirhat Bazar of Char Fakira union around 5:00 pm.

Tension prevails across Companiganj upazila since the incident.

The bullet-hit were known as Saidur Rahman, 26, son of Abdul Wahid of Bororazapur village, Nurul Amit, 20, son of Sirajul Islam of Char Kakra union and Raihan, 20, son of Abul Kalam of Basurhat municipality area.

The seriously injured were Md Kanchan, 60, of Char Fakira union, Masud, 25, son of Abul Khayer of Muchhapur union, Kamrul Hassan, 30, son of Abdus Sattar of Char Kakra union, Farhad, 40, son of Abdul Mannan of Char Fakira union,   Muzakkir, 28, son of Borhan Uddin of Char Fakira union, Adnan, 24, and Maruf, 25 of Basurhat municipality area.

Health official of Companiganj Upazila Md Selim confirmed the matter. He said, “Five seriously injured people including three bullet-hit were sent to Noakhali Sadar Hospital for advance treatment.

Mir Zahidul Haque Rony, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companiganj Police Station, said, “Being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. However, police could not hold any over the incident. Legal steps would be taken later.
