Cox’s Bazar road accident leaves 2 dead

A truck carrying cement rammed into several pedestrians and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Kolatoli in Cox's Bazar last night, leaving two persons dead and at least eight others critically injured.

Dr Shahin Mohammad Abdur Rahman Chowdhury, resident doctor of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, confirmed the news.

The accident took place around 10:30pm on Saturday (March 6).

The deceased were identified as Momena Begum, 65 and Shahadat Hossain.

According to eye-witnesses, the incident took place around 10:30 pm when the driver of the cement-laden truck lost his control over the steering when it reached Kolatali intersection and it smashed into several pedestrians and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, leaving two dead on the spot and eight others critically injured.

The critically injured persons were taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital and were receiving treatment there, said Dr Shahin Abdur Rahman Chowdhury, resident doctor of the hospital.

The two bodies were kept at the hospital morgue, he added.
