Indian truck drivers facing sufferings at Hili Landport

About one hundred of Indian trucks loaded with rice have been waiting at the Hili Landport in Dinajpur for 5 to 10 days for unloading. As a result, the drivers of the trucks are facing untold sufferings.

The truck drivers complained that they are living with various problems including food shortage.

Sohrab Hossain Pratab Mallick, a public relations officer at Hili Panama Port, confirmed the matter on Monday morning.

During visit to the land port, it was seen that about one hundred trucks loaded with rice have been waiting inside the port for 5 to 10 days. The drivers and helpers brought with them foods for two or three days. They have now any food for the last few days, even they have no money. Importers are not contracting with them since the rice had come there. The port authorities are not allowing them to go out of the gate to collect the necessary items. As a result, the Indian truck drivers are passing their life with untold sufferings.

Ratan Roy, a truck driver, told risingbd, "I have been here for 10 days. There is no information about the rice importers. The food I brought with me ended some days ago. I am now in very trouble”.

"I have been waiting here for 5 days, I don't know how long I will have to stay here. I am to eat and sleep on the trucke," Subhas Bharman, another truck driver, said.
