Shitalakkhya launch capsize: 5 staff put on remand

A court in Narayanganj has granted two-day remand to five staff of cargo ship SKL-3 in a case filed over a passenger vessel capsize on the Shitalakkhya River.

In the presence of the accused, Senior Judicial Magistrate Ahmmed Humayun Kabir passed the order on Friday after noon (April 9).

The court also sent nine other accused to jail after hearing in the case, Narayanganj court police inspector Asaduzzaman confirmed.

Earlier on April 4, a passenger launch named ML Sabit Al Hasan was hit from behind by the cargo ship while overtaking near the 3rd Shitalakshya Bridge (China Bridge) under construction at Kolaghat area under Bandar police station. Thirty-four people including women and children were killed in the accident.
