Bulkhead, speedboat collision kills 26 in Padma

At least 26 people were killed in a collision between a speedboat and a sand-laden bulkhead in the river Padma on Monday morning.
The accident took place around 6.00am in Kathalbari Ghat area near Banglabazar Ferry Ghat at Shibchar of Madaripur.
Officer-in-Charge of Shibchar Thana Miraz Hossain confirmed the news.
Ashikur Rahman, traffic inspector at Banglabazar Ferry Ghat, said a speedboat from Shimulia Ferry Ghat was heading to Banglabazar Ferry Ghat. The speedboat turned over as it collided with the sand-laden bulkhead in Kathalbari Ghat area.
Being informed, Fire Service and Naval Police rushed to the spot and recovered 24 dead bodies.
Four of the victims were rescued alive, two of them died at Shibchar Upazila Health Complex. Several people are still missing.
