Shimulia Ferry Ghat was teeming with homebound people ahead of Eid from Monday morning.
Thousands of people from the capital reached there to go to southern districts, ignoring the health guidelines and restrictions.
But on Monday morning, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) was forced to operate two ferries for five/six dead body carrying ambulances. Taking the opportunity, at least three thousand people boarded the two ferries to cross the river.
BIWTC’s Shimuliaghat manager (finance) Safaet Ahmed confirmed the news.
BIWTC has suspended ferry services from May 8 in a bid to prevent spread of coronavirus infection in the country.
