2 killed in Panchagarh lightning strikes

Two people were killed after lightning strikes at Debiganj upazila in Panchagarh district.

The lightning strikes took place on Monday (May 10) afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Solaiman Ali, 35, son of Fazal Haq of Debiduba Darar Haat area, and Hamidul Islam, 38, son of Abdus Samad of Araji Sundardighi area in the upazila.

Police and local sources said Solaiman was struck by thunderbolt when he was lifting sand from river by dredger and Hamidul was struck by lightning when he was working at a paddy field.

Later, they were rushed to Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Debiganj Police Station Jamal Hossain confirmed the incident.
