Woman raped at quarantine home: ASI suspended

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police has been temporarily suspended in connection with a case filed over his alleged involvement in raping a woman, 22, at a quarantine home in Khulna who recently has returned from India.

The suspended police official was known as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mokhlesur Rahman, 44.

Additional Deputy Police Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Md Jahangir Alam confirmed the matter and said the metropolitan police and district administration are investigating the incident.

The victim is now undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital.

Earlier, Mokhlesur was arrested after the victim filed a case in this connection with Khulna Sadar Police Station on Monday (May 17) morning.

SI Abu Syeed of the police station, also the investigation officer of the case, said Mokhlesur was produced before the court after his arrest. Later, the court ordered police to send him to jail. 

Mokhlesur was engaged in Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) court. However, he had been performing his duty at PTI Quarantine Centre in Khulna since May 1.

According to family sources of the victim, the girl returned from India on May 4 and was in a 14-day quarantine at the PTI training center in Khulna. Then a love affair developed between the girl and ASI Mokhlesur Rahman. At one stage, on May 14, Mokhlesur Rahman raped her. The girl was known as a resident of Khanjahan Ali police station area of Khulna Metropolitan.
