People at Sonamasjid port at risk of Indian variant infection

People of Sonamasjid land port in Chapainawabganj are at risk of being infected with Indian variants of coronavirus due to lack of health awareness among truck drivers who are coming from India with imported goods.

There are about 10,000 government and non-government employees at Sonamasjid land port. About 10,000 workers and drivers also work there. Of which the number of registered employees is one thousand 226. The remaining 8,700 employees work in loading and unloading various products including fruits, wheat, maize, spices, various agricultural products, stones, coal and fuel oil.

At the entrance of the border, there is an arrangement to spray disinfectant on the trucks and health check-up for the truck drivers. However, the health check-up activities are being carried out by inexperienced health workers. Besides, there is no social distance due to lack of supervision by the port authorities.

Locals say there is very little awareness among the truck drivers who come to the port from different provinces of India.
