10-year-old child beaten up on suspicion of theft

A 10-year-old boy has been beaten up on suspicion of theft at Delduar in Tangail.

The victim was known as Abdullah Al Rafi, son of Mostaq Ahmed of Chandipur village under Sherpur upazila in Bogura.

His mother filed complaint to Delduar Police Station, local office of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Superintendent of Police (SP) in the district.

Child’s mother Mary said, “A few days ago, she along with Rafi came to her father’s house in Sinharagi village of Elasin Union. Rafi was playing with his peers in the village on Tuesday afternoon. At one point, he hid under the mango tree of local resident Farhad Ali Khan. Farhad Ali Khan kept beating Rafi with a bamboo stick thinking he was a thief. Farhad Ali also abused her in vulgar language when she went ahead hearing shout of her child.

Farhad Ali Khan said, “The incident took place due to misunderstanding. The village boys eat mango, blackberry and litchi at my house secretly. Even they also fled with the fruits after stealing. They disturbed us by pressing calling bell of the home. For all these reasons, they have been shown the fear of being beaten. On Tuesday afternoon, two people were guarding inside the house and two outside. As soon as I asked the boy something, he ran away from my house. I thought he was stealing my double-barreled gun and fleeing. Later I grabbed him and brought him with the other boys. I hit him a few times with a bamboo branch. The matter was resolved on Tuesday night.”
