Dhaka-bound people are still thronging the Shimulia-Banglabazar route ignoring strict restrictions announced by the government to prevent coronavirus infection.

On Monday (August 2) morning, it was seen that people were crossing the Padma river from Shimulia Ghat ignoring the hygiene rules.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Inspector Md Solaiman confirmed the news.

Many people reached Banglabazar by various vehicles including motorcycles, auto-rickshaws and three-wheelers. In this case, they had to face the obstacles of the police on the way. Few cars were seen waiting in the parking yards of Shimulia Ghat.

Inspector Md Solaiman said 36 out of 86 launches and nine out of 17 ferries are plying on Shimulia-Banglabazar route. There is much pressure on the ferries coming from Banglabazar at Shimulia Ghat. Speedboats completely remain closed.
