83,000 vehicles cross Bangabandhu Bridge in 48 hours

The government allowed the operation of public transports on a limited scale on Sunday (Aug 01) to facilitate the return of workers of export-oriented industries and factories including garment factories in the capital.

As a result, pressure triggered by a huge number of passengers increased on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway, the gateway to North Bengal.

A record number of vehicles carrying workers crossed the Bangabandhu Bridge.

A total of 82,797 vehicles crossed the Bangabandhu Bridge in last 48 hours. Toll worth Tk 5.39 crore was collected over this period.

A total of 44,857 vehicles crossed the Bangabandhu Bridge in the last 24 hours starting from 6.00am on Saturday to Sunday. Toll worth Tk 2.60 crore was collected over this period.

Executive Engineer of Bangabandhu Bridge’s site office Ahsanul Kabir Pavel confirmed the news.

People rushed to Dhaka in buses, freight trucks, open trucks, pickups, microbuses and private cars but health guidelines are being largely ignored.
