Two dolphins caught in Jamuna in two days

Two dolphins were caught by fisheremen in Manikganj in two days. However, the district fisheries department is not aware of the matter.
It was learned that a dolphin was caught in the Jamuna River of Baghutia union of Daulatpur upazila on Tuesday (October 12). The fishermen said the dolphin was caught in their net while fishing.
Earlier on Monday (October 11), another dolphin was caught from the Jamuna River in Charkatari Board Ghar area of Daulatpur Upazila. A person named Alfe Sunny posted a picture of a dolphin in a Facebook group.
When contacted, Daulatpur Upazila Fisheries Resources Officer Roni Saha said they know nothing over netting two dolphins. However, he said that some dolphins are currently seen in the Jamuna River.
“I myself have seen quite a few dolphins in this area. Fishermen are more likely to catch dolphins in their nets,” he added.
District Fisheries Officer Mohammad Saifur Rahman said there is a possibility of dolphins living in the Jamuna River. The speedboats, trawlers and big boats are moving freely in this river and the dolphins may come ashore. In addition, dolphins can be injured due to these vessels.
However, he did not know anything about catching dolphins in the last three days.
