Former pilot dies while teaching children swimming in pond

A former pilot has died of cardiac arrest while he was teaching his children swimming in a pond in Lakshmipur. He was known as Mofizur Rahman, 44, former wing commander of Bangladesh Air Force.
The incident took place at Madhya Keroa village under Raipur upazila of the district on Saturday (October 16) noon.
Deceased’s relatives Kazi Farid Hossain and Kazi Irfan said Mofizur willingly retired from Bangladesh Air Force after doing jobs for 19 years. He left behind wife, a son and a daughter. On Thursday, he came to visit the village home.
They said, around 11:00 am on Saturday, Mofizur donated sewing machines to seven helpless families. At around 12:00 pm, he took his son and daughter to a pond next to his house to teach them how to swim. At this time he felt pain in chest. At one stage he fell ill and drowned in the water. Then the relatives came forward to rescue him and took him to Raipur Government Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.
Abul Hossain, ward councillor of Raipur municipality, confirmed the matter. He said, “Mofizur was a very good person. We are shocked at his demise.”
