1,000 tourists stranded on St Martin`s island

Over one thousand tourists have got stranded on St Martin's Island in the Bay of Bengal due to inclement weather.

The authorities concerned suspended the movement of passenger vessels between Teknaf and St Martin's Island on Sunday and Monday.

Mohammad Pervez Chowdhury, Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) confirmed the matter on Saturday (December 4).

“The decision was taken following rough weather. The ban will last until the weather improves,” UNO added.

Earlier, the Met Office asked the maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra to hoist the cautionary signal 3 as low pressure has formed over the northern bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
