Engine with two compartments derailed in Gazipur

The engine with two compartments of a commuter train named ‘Mohua Express’ scheduled to travel from Dhaka to Mymensingh derailed at Kaoraid Railway Station in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur.

The incident took place around 11:30 am on Thursday (January 20).

The incident caused some passengers to sustain minor injuries as they rushed to get off the train. 

Station Master of Sreepur Railway Station Harun-ar-Rashid confirmed the matter.

He said that the train departed from Sreepur Railway Station around 11:12 am. The engine with two compartments derailed when it reached Kaoraid Railway Station.

The derailment happened because the rail track at Kaoraid Railway Station was under maintenance. The workers did not inform the station master that they removed one of the railway sleepers from line 2. As a result, the engine and two compartments of the train derailed as it reached the station, said the master.

He also added that the higher authorities have been informed about the incident.
