Bus driver jailed for 9 yrs for killing two secretaries in Manikganj

A Manikganj court has sentenced a bus driver to nine years in a case of killing two secretaries at Shibaloy upazila in Manikganj.

Judge Utpal Bhattacharya of Additional District and Session Judge Court passed the order on Tuesday (May 24) in absence of the accused.

The court inspector Anisur Rahman confirmed the matter.

The convict was known as Md Anowar Hossain, driver of Druti Paribahan. He is son of late Hanif of Kamarkhola village under Nawabganj upazila in Dhaka.

The court also fined the accused Tk 2.06 lakh which would be handed over to the victims’ families.

The deceased were known as Rizia Begum, secretary of Womens’ Affairs Ministry, and Siddiqur Rahman, chairman of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC).

According to the case statement, the two secretaries were heading towards Gopalganj by a Pajero gip on July 31 2010 to attend a programme of Prime Minister. The Druti Paribahan bus rammed their car, leaving them seriously injured. They were rushed to Manikganj Sadar Hospital where duty doctors declared them dead.
